Esquel Group’s Chief People Officer Queenie Huang Joins UNGC CEO Roundtable, Marking the 50th Anniversary of International Women’s Day

On March 3, Queenie Huang, Chief People Officer of Esquel Group, participated in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) CEO Roundtable in Shanghai, celebrating the 50th anniversary of International Women’s Day. She engaged alongside Siddharth Chatterjee, UN Resident Coordinator in China; Meng Liu, Head of the UNGC China Office; and Smriti Aryal, UN Women's Country Representative in China, as well as over 80 business leaders. Together, they explored corporate strategies for advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.

During the discussion, Queenie shared Esquel’s commitment to fostering workplace gender equality, expanding opportunities for women, and supporting career development. She emphasized that Esquel views employees as long-term partners and family, providing continuous learning and growth opportunities. 

“To ensure the sustainable development of the textile and apparel industry, we must leverage technology. With technology as our ally, we can empower employees to adapt and innovate, drive industry growth, and attract more talent to our industry,” she noted.

As the first company in the industry to offer frontline employees opportunities for continuing education and academic progression, Esquel has fully funded over 1,500 employees through the Worker Education Sponsorship Scheme since 2015, helping them earn associate degrees. Women account for 53% of graduates, and more than half of the program’s participants have since been promoted. 

Esquel also fosters work-life balance through flexible work arrangements and family-friendly policies and facilities, creating an inclusive workplace where women can thrive and succeed. These initiatives reflect Esquel’s commitment to gender equality, women’s empowerment, and workplace diversity.
